Ticket price

The museum belongs to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Its page on the Ministry's Turkish Museums portal and the Ministry's museum and site fee list agree on the price:

Visitor Price
Non-Turkish adult, aged 8 and over €10
Non-Turkish child, 8–18 €10
Non-Turkish child, under 8 Free

At the Central Bank's indicative selling rate for 2 November 2026 (€1 = 55.996 TL), €10 is about 560 TL. A family of two adults and children aged 10 and 6 pays €30: three tickets at €10, the six-year-old free.

Does the Museum Pass make sense?

Probably not for this museum. The MuseumPass Istanbul page sells a €105 card for five days at 13 Ministry museums, but it names only the Galata Tower, the Istanbul Archaeological Museums and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts. The museum's own page shows a MuseumPass notice without saying outright that this museum is one of the 13, so ask at the ticket office if you already hold a pass. If you are buying, €10 is a small part of €105.

Opening hours by season

The museum page gives two timetables:

Season Open Ticket office closes
Winter, 1 October to 1 April 09:00–18:30 daily 17:30
Summer, 1 April to 1 October 09:00–20:00 daily 19:00

No weekly closing day and no holiday closures are listed. That is not a promise that the museum never shuts; check the page the day before a public holiday. In November, plan on the winter timetable and the 17:30 ticket cut-off.

Istanbul, Türkiye

Combining it with Gülhane's other sights

The address is the Has Ahırlar (imperial stables) building inside Gülhane Park, Fatih. The museum page places it beside the Sur-ı Sultani, the wall around the palace grounds. Two bigger sights are close by, and their timings shape the order of the day:

Your day Suggested order
Topkapı + this museum (not Tuesday) Topkapı first, as its tickets stop at 17:00; this museum afterwards, before 17:30 in winter
Tuesday Topkapı is closed: the Archaeological Museums and this museum fit comfortably in one day
Summer evening This museum sells tickets until 19:00, later than the other two

On ticket prices alone, this museum plus the Archaeological Museums costs a foreign adult €25. Our Archaeological Museums guide and Topkapı Palace tickets guide cover those two visits.

What is inside

According to the museum page, the exhibition covers 3,500 square metres and shows 585 objects: tools, replicas of instruments and models of inventions by scientists of the Islamic world from the 9th to the 16th centuries. Sections cover astronomy, clocks and navigation, war technology, medicine, mining, physics, mathematics and geometry, architecture and urban planning, chemistry and optics, and geography.

The page calls it the first museum of its kind in Türkiye and the second in the world, after a similar museum in Frankfurt.
