Florence airport by T2 tram
The GEST airport page says the Peretola Aeroporto tram stop is a two-minute walk from arrivals and departures, and that line T2 reaches the centre in about 20 minutes. The line runs through Santa Maria Novella station and on to Piazza San Marco, according to Feel Florence, the city's tourism site.
Times. The GEST timetable shows the first tram leaving the airport at 05:00 every day. The last one leaves at 23:58 from Sunday to Thursday and at 01:15 on Friday and Saturday nights. From Monday to Thursday, trams run every 4–5 minutes between 06:30 and 20:30, every 10 minutes in the evening and about every 22 minutes after 23:30. On Sundays and holidays the morning service runs every 9–11 minutes.
Tickets. A ticket costs €2.00 and is valid for 90 minutes on trams and city buses, according to the GEST ticket page and the Autolinee Toscane fares page. Feel Florence's arrival page still quotes the old €1.70 fare, which rose to €2.00 on 1 August 2026. You can:
- buy at the machine at the stop, which Feel Florence says is on your left as you leave the airport, and validate the ticket on board;
- tap a contactless card, phone or watch on the reader inside the tram (one card per person);
- buy in the AT app before boarding.
Our Florence bus and tram tickets guide explains validation and what happens if you are caught without a ticket.
The luggage rule that decides it
GEST allows one bag up to 55x40x20 cm and 10 kg free. Bags up to 80x45x25 cm and 20 kg need an extra €2.00 ticket each, with a maximum of two per person. Anything larger is not allowed on the tram, and there is no luggage space on board.
Measure your bags before you choose. A cabin-size bag usually fits the free allowance, but many checked suitcases are larger than 80x45x25 cm, and then the taxi is the only option of the two.

Florence airport by taxi
Florence taxis charge a fixed fare from Vespucci airport to hotels in the historic centre (the UNESCO area). Feel Florence's taxi page gives:
- €28 standard fare;
- €30 on holidays;
- €32 at night;
- €1.10 per piece of luggage;
- an extra charge for more than three passengers, amount not stated.
Feel Florence says many taxis accept credit cards, not all. If you need to pay by card, ask before you get in. If you plan to drive instead, read our Florence ZTL guide before you collect the car: the historic centre is closed to unauthorised cars by camera gates.
Worked example: a family with two suitcases
Two adults and two children aged 8 and 12 land at 14:00 on a Wednesday with two large suitcases.
- Tram: three tickets (the 8-year-old rides free) would be €6.00, but the suitcases are over the tram's size limit, so this does not work.
- Taxi: €28 + 2 × €1.10 = €30.20, plus the unpublished supplement for a fourth passenger.
The same family with only cabin bags would pay €6.00 on the tram and save about €24.
Pisa airport to Florence
Pisa airport is about 1 km from Pisa Centrale railway station, according to Visit Tuscany's flying to Tuscany page. You make the trip in two legs.
Leg 1: the Pisa Mover
The Pisa Mover service page lists these terms (checked 30 October 2026):
- Fare: €6.50 one way, €13 return.
- Time: about 5 minutes, including the intermediate stop at the car parks.
- Hours: 06:00–24:00 every day, until 01:00 from 1 June to 30 September.
- Tickets: machines at all three stops (up to 10 tickets per transaction), the company office at San Giusto/Aurelia (08:30–18:00), online, or combined with a rail ticket at Trenitalia ticket offices. Tickets are valid for 180 days from issue.
At Pisa Centrale, the shuttle stops at the former platform 14, which you reach through the station's underground passages, according to Visit Tuscany's Pisa Mover page.
Leg 2: the regional train
Feel Florence's Tuscany travel page describes Pisa–Florence rail links as direct and very frequent. Trains arrive at Firenze Santa Maria Novella, the city's main station, which Feel Florence places in the city centre.
We could not read a current Trenitalia fare table for this route, so we do not quote the ticket price; Trenitalia's journey planner shows it when you search. Journey times differ between services, so compare the duration and route of each train in the planner rather than boarding the first one listed for Firenze. Our Siena, Pisa or Lucca comparison gives example timings.
Feel Florence's train page gives the validation rule: stamp a paper ticket in the machine before going to the platform; a digital ticket is validated automatically at the departure time of the train you chose.

Late arrivals
At Florence airport, the last tram leaves at 23:58 from Sunday to Thursday and at 01:15 on Friday and Saturday nights. After that, the €32 night taxi fare applies.
At Pisa, the Pisa Mover runs until midnight from October to May. If you land late, look up the last train from Pisa Centrale to Florence before you fly: if it leaves before you can realistically reach the platform, book a room near Pisa Centrale rather than relying on a long taxi ride.
