Decisions to make before you travel
- How do you get in from the airport? From Florence airport (Peretola), the T2 tram stop is a two-minute walk from arrivals and the ride to the centre takes about 20 minutes on a €2.00 ticket; the first tram leaves at 05:00 and the last at 23:58 (01:15 on Friday and Saturday nights). Bags larger than 80x45x25 cm are not allowed on the tram, and then the taxi's fixed fare to central hotels, €28 by day, €30 on holidays and €32 at night plus €1.10 per bag, is the answer (GEST and the city tourism site, checked 30 October 2026). From Pisa airport, the Pisa Mover reaches Pisa Centrale in about 5 minutes for €6.50, then a regional train continues to Florence.
- How do you pay on buses and trams? One urban ticket covers both: €2.00 for 90 minutes, or €3.00 bought from the driver. Tapping a contactless Visa, Mastercard or Amex card, phone or watch costs the same, but each card pays for one person. The Autolinee Toscane fares page lists no day pass. The fare rose from €1.70 on 1 August 2026, so ignore older pages showing €1.70.
- What has to be booked? The Brunelleschi dome climb needs the €30 Brunelleschi Pass with a named, fixed slot that cannot be changed or refunded; the cathedral itself is free, Monday to Saturday. Michelangelo's Secret Room at the Medici Chapels is booking-only, four people per slot. At the Uffizi, booking is optional but costs more: €29 bought before the day against €25 on the day. Firenze Card holders must still reserve the Uffizi and the Accademia.
- What changes soon or closes in winter? The Pisa Mover runs with a single shuttle from 26 October to 13 December 2026 and from 11 January to 28 February 2027, every 12–15 minutes. Boboli closes at 16:30 from November to February and shuts on 2 and 30 November and 7 and 28 December 2026. The Vasari Corridor's Friday evenings end on 20 November 2026. The Uffizi, Pitti and the Accademia close on 25 December and 1 January; the Medici Chapels list 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027.
- What rules apply to drivers? The ZTL runs Monday to Friday 7:30–20:00 and Saturday 7:30–16:00 with camera gates. A hotel inside it must pass your plate on within 3 hours of entry; otherwise a day permit costs €5 for transit or €15 with parking. The separate Scudo Verde low-emission zone adds older petrol and diesel categories from 1 December 2026.

If this is your situation
What to recheck before you go
The Accademia's price is the open conflict: the Ministry of Culture announced €20 from 1 February 2026 while the museum's own pages still say €16, so check the official checkout. The Uffizi still shows an old €19 early-bird notice that its current price list does not include; do not count on it. Holiday opening on 8 December and over Christmas, the Medici Chapels' listed Monday evening opening on 30 November and whether 4 November 2026 is a free day were not confirmed on official pages. Florence's tourist tax per night is not covered by a checked guide yet; ask your accommodation. Each guide names the page it follows and the date it was checked; open that page again for your travel dates.
